Ruth is a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner; board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has completed mini-fellowships in both Adult and Pediatric Mental Health through UAMS. She is also trained in Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). She recently retired from pediatric primary care.
Ruth was born in Pennsylvania and was transplanted to Utah during her adolescence. A near death experience following a tonsillectomy at the age of five sent her on a path to become a nurse; and at the age of 17 she entered nursing school. The next 30 years were largely spent working in the Emergency Room with an additional 12 years as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in primary care.
Three of Ruth’s children were serving in the military and inspired her to join the U.S. Army at the young age of 48. She spent 12 years in the army as a trauma nurse and experienced several missions globally, as well as a one-year deployment in Afghanistan with the 934 th Forward Surgical Team. Along with performing damage control surgery in an austere environment, she taught Advanced Trauma Life Support skills to medics and NATO allies, including Afghan military and police. All of these civilian and military experiences are the bedrock of her nursing career.
Following her deployment, she was recruited by Utah Valley Pediatrics and the many children in her practice “filled her cup” and “healed her heart.” She became more focused on pediatric mental health over the years. This has become her passion and prompted her to obtain additional education in mental health. Since retiring full time, Ruth’s FAVORITE job is being a grandmother and having many adventures with her grandchildren.
Ruth is excited to join the professional team at Peak Harmony and will be accepting patients for medication management. Medical conditions she can treat include: ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and mood dysregulation. Ruth also offers genetic testing for medication compatibility.
Ruth is currently accepting patients from age 5 to 64.
